• Load your web browser Microsoft Internet Explorer and find the Subject Teaching with Internet Resources web page in Favourites. Click to load the page.
• Click on the (underlined) link My Favourite Subject in Secondary School. We are going to copy one of the pictures on to the computer's clipboard and paste it from there into a word processor.
• To copy the picture, click on it with the right mouse button. Then click Copy with the left button.
• We are now going to load Word. Do this by clicking on Start on the toolbar, then Programs and then Microsoft Word.
• Click on Edit and then Paste. Resize the picture by pulling it out at the corners. Type a few words underneath the picture. Then print out the page. Then exit from Word.
• Click on Internet Explorer's Back button.

• Click on the link GCSE Subjects, which leads to the NEAB website. We are going to find out who the Religious Studies Subject Officer is.
• Click on Religious Studies. You will find the RE Subject Officer's name at the top of the web page.
• Find out what the syllabus number is for 1999 Religious Studies Syllabus D (Short Course). You may have to scroll down the page.
• Click the Back Button. Click on Design and Technology. We are going to download (transfer on to our computer) the Report of the 1997 D&T: Electronic Products examination.
• Go to Internet Explorer's Edit Menu. Click on Find and type in the word Electronic. Click on Find Next until you find the entry. Click on the link and the compressed file will download. Try decompressing the file by clicking on it.

• The BBC website is supposed to be the most visited information-based website in Europe. BBC Education has a section called GCSE Bitesize Revision, which is intended for learners working on their own.
• Return to the STIR home page. Click on the Bitesize Revision link. Then click on the Design and Technology link. Look at the topics. Are they relevant? Try one and assess the quality of subsequent pages for age-appropriateness and curriculum focus.
• Then click the Back button until you return to the subject menu. Do the same for Religious Education.

• Return to the STIR home page. The two links Teaching Ideas and Lesson Plans, Work Sheets, Resources are designed for DT and RE teachers, but in which education sector?
• Assess the relevance of the teaching ideas, lesson plans, worksheets and resources on offer for DT and RE.

• Return to the STIR home page and click on the D&T Online link. You will find further links to such topics as electronics, food and manufacturing. Explore one of two and consider their appropriateness.
• Return to the STIR home page and take the Virtual Tour of Durham Cathedral. Could this material form the basis of an RE project?

• Return to the STIR home page and click on the Online Milling link. How good is this page at demonstrating a DT process? What happens when you click on the pictures?
• Return to the STIR home page and access the Answer To Your Prayers link. Skim through this document and decide whether it tells you anything new about the use of ICT in RE.

• Return to the STIR home page and click on the Technology Education Pages link. How representative are the listed links of the DT world? At the bottom of the page there are links to web pages submitted by teachers, schools and organisations. Explore next the Industrial Technology and Design Teachers' Association link.
• Return to the STIR home page and do the same with the two RE links The Teachers' Cupboard and RE Organisations Index. Feel free to explore any interesting links.

• Return to the STIR home page and click on the Alta Vista link. Use "Religious Education" as your keywords, in quotes. How many hits were there? Print out the first page of hits. Do the same for "Design Technology". Now try +religious +education. Any change in the type and quantity of hits?
• Now try out Yahoo, typing "Religious Education" into the box. How does Yahoo present search results? Do the same for "Design Technology".
• What are the advantages and the disadvantages of each of these search engines?
